Airbnb review removal rules and disputes

Airbnb removes reviews that violate its Reviews Policy — retaliation, irrelevant content, discrimination, and more. Here's how to build a request that Airbnb approves.

What Airbnb's Review Policy covers

Airbnb's Review Policy prohibits: content unrelated to the trip; content used as retaliation; content that violates community standards (discrimination, threats, private information); reviews from users who did not stay; and biased reviews (from friends of hosts, or from users leveraging reviews for extortion).

The most common host wins are reviews that reference issues not related to the stay itself, reviews after cancellations, and clearly retaliatory reviews following a policy-enforcement action by the host.

The dispute process

Report the review through Airbnb's in-app or web dispute flow within the review window. Cite the specific Review Policy clause, describe the retaliation or off-topic nature, and attach any relevant message-thread evidence.

Airbnb's moderators review and respond. First-pass denials can be escalated by requesting a second review with additional context.

Common questions: Airbnb review removal request

Can a Turo review be removed the same way?
Turo runs a different platform with its own review policy, but the pattern is similar: reviews unrelated to the trip, biased reviews, and reviews from renters who did not complete the trip can be disputed.
Can hosts leave retaliatory reviews back?
Not without violating Airbnb policy themselves. Cross-retaliation is a fast path to host suspension. Report the review, do not retaliate.
