How to Prove a Reviewer Was Never a Customer
Fake reviews from non-customers are removable if you can prove the reviewer never visited. Here are the record types Google actually accepts and how to package them.

Quick Answer
Google will remove reviews from non-customers under its fake engagement policy, but only when you can document that no transaction, appointment, or interaction occurred. That means matching the reviewer's identity against your CRM, POS, appointment book, or communication logs and packaging the result cleanly for a reviewer who has 90 seconds to read it.
What Google accepts as proof
The bar is not "we do not remember them." It is documented absence:
POS or CRM search showing no record of the reviewer's name, phone, or email in the relevant time window
Appointment logs with no entry for the reviewer or the date they describe
Communication records (email, SMS, phone) with no contact history
Access logs for businesses with membership or check-in systems
Written statement describing what was searched, when, and by whom
What Google does not accept
- "We do not think they were a customer"
- Assumptions based on the reviewer's tone
- Speculation without a documented search
The evidence package
A useful submission looks like this:
One-paragraph summary: "We searched our POS, appointment book, and email records for {name} between {date range}. No records were found."
Screenshots showing the empty search results (redact other customer information)
A description of the systems searched and their coverage period
Any additional signals: the review references a service you do not offer, a location you do not have, or a date the business was closed
Practical constraints
Some businesses genuinely cannot verify. A busy restaurant with cash walk-ins cannot prove a party did not eat there on a Saturday night. Google understands this, but the burden of proof still sits with you, so pick your cases.
When to escalate
If you have documented absence and the first flag was denied, appeal with the evidence package attached. If the reviewer's account also shows fake-engagement patterns (see how to report a fake Google review), combine the arguments. For businesses without integrated records systems, Reputation Medics fake review removal will structure the search, capture the evidence, and file the escalation.
