Older housing, tight streets and review-driven hiring
Much of Boston's housing stock is more than a century old, so plumbing, electrical, heating, roofing and masonry jobs are often complicated and expensive. Homeowners compare several bids and read reviews carefully. Google reviews matter most in map results, Yelp is strong in the city and Cambridge, Angi and Thumbtack feed lead requests, Houzz influences remodels and Nextdoor spreads word quickly between neighbors.
Condo associations and multi-unit owners add another layer. A trustee or tenant may post about a building-wide project they did not hire you for, or about another trade that worked on the same job. Those posts often describe someone else's work.
Massachusetts contractor rules and consumer protection
Massachusetts requires home improvement contractors working on existing owner-occupied residences to register under M.G.L. c. 142A, which also sets contract requirements and an arbitration program for disputes. The consumer protection law, M.G.L. c. 93A, covers unfair and deceptive trade practices, including fake or purchased reviews.
The federal FTC rule, 16 CFR Part 465, bans fake reviews and paying for positive ones, and the Consumer Review Fairness Act, 15 U.S.C. 45b, prevents contracts from barring honest reviews. Massachusetts' anti-SLAPP statute, M.G.L. c. 231, section 59H, can apply in some speech disputes, so we use platform policy rather than legal threats. This is general information, not legal advice.
Winter emergencies, snow season and the wrong company's name
When a boiler fails in January or ice dams back water into a ceiling, homeowners call whoever answers first. If that company could not come out, the homeowner sometimes reviews them anyway, even though no work was done. Reviews from people who never became customers are often outside platform rules.
Boston also has many trades with similar names, and lead marketplaces route one homeowner to several companies. A review about a competitor's crew, a subcontractor you did not hire or a snow removal service can end up on your page. We trace who actually did the work before filing.
Reviews we remove for Boston home service companies
Strong candidates include reviews about another contractor, posts from competitors or former employees, reviews from people who never received service, threats or slurs, private details about employees, duplicate reviews and reviews written for a discount or gift.
Send us the link, and we will confirm the grounds and file. Most Google removals take 7–21 days after a valid request. Angi, Thumbtack, Houzz and Nextdoor each run their own review processes, and we follow up on every one.

Home Services Review Removal in Boston, Massachusetts: questions
A homeowner reviewed us after we could not take an emergency heating call. Is that removable?
If no service was provided and the review describes a call that never became a job, many platforms treat it as outside their rules. We check the wording and the platform policy before we file.
A condo resident blamed us for another trade's work on the same building. Can that come down?
When the review clearly describes a different company or a job you did not perform, that is a common removal ground. We document who did the work from the details available and submit it.
How much does it cost to remove a Boston contractor review?
For Google, $397 standard or $372 in advance. Yelp is $697, or $672 in advance. Angi, Thumbtack, Houzz, Nextdoor and other platforms are $497, or $472 in advance.
